Trust host first Parent & Carer Conference alongside Violence Reduction Partnership and BLESST

Published: 1st Apr 2026

On Thursday 26 March 2026, Birmingham Children’s Trust, in partnership with BLESST and the Violence Reduction Partnership, hosted Birmingham’s very first Parent & Carer Conference.

The event was dedicated to exploring the challenges parents and carers face in today’s society, with a strong focus on the vulnerability that many experience. The conference put a spotlight on just how vital support is for families, while also showcasing powerful stories from parents who have transformed their pain into purpose.

One of the most moving aspects was hearing directly from young people about their experiences of being parented. It gave parents a meaningful glimpse into their world, fostering greater understanding and empathy.

The workshops were designed to educate, empower, and equip parents with practical knowledge about online harm, social media, vulnerability stemming from neurodiverse needs, criminal exploitation, youth violence, advocacy, family law, and understanding their rights. We also addressed important topics like dealing with bereavement, grief, and loss.

Clair Graham, Head of Partnerships, Multi-Agency Child Protection Team, said:

“I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and participated, especially those who created a safe space to share their personal experiences.

"The need for support in our community is profound and growing, but together, we have hope. Special thanks go to our young people, workshop leads, keynote speakers, and the Violence Reduction Partnership for funding the event. I’d also like to thank West Midlands Police Crime Commissioner Simon Foster for taking the time from the Victim’s Summit to meet some of the parents.”

A big thank you to everyone who helped organise and support such an impactful and inspiring event. We'll see you there at the next one!
