Accessibility statement

This accessibility statement applies to www.birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk

Birmingham Children’s Trust is committed to providing web pages that are accessible to all users.

The Birmingham Children’s Trust website aims to meet a minimum of WCAG 2.0 AA compliance in line with the Web Accessibility guidelines (WCAG 2.0) standards.

Auditing

We carry out regular accessibility audits of the website and a full website audit on an annual basis using WCAG 2.1 AA standards which guide our long term audit and improvement plans.

We use Siteimprove (a website quality assurance tool) to scan our website every week and it keeps us updated about any changes in accessibility and quality assurance. We actively check these reports and make changes as necessary.

Reporting accessibility problems with the website

We’re always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements, please email TrustComms@birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk

Here are some features of our website:

  • colour contrast – we have tried to use colours that provide maximum contrast between foreground and background items including headers, body text and hyperlinks
  • images – all interface graphics and images are assigned an alt-text attribute, which describes the contents or function of the item
  • CSS – style-sheets have been used for all visual items and text. This means that you can change the text size from within the browser
  • responsive design – website pages re-size according to the device being used
  • screen readers - all content is set up to work with a screen reader

Non-accessible content

We work to achieve and maintain WCAG 2.1 AA standards, but it is not always possible for all our content to be accessible.

  • Most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software.
  • Live video streams do not have captions.
  • There are a small number of images on the website that don’t have alternative text.

What we’re doing to fix accessibility issues

We have a plan in place and are working to fix these issues. We are putting a large proportion of our time into making our website compliant and as accessible as possible.

We are also working with all our staff who are responsible for writing content for the website, to train them in producing more accessible content and to improve all the content already up on the site where necessary.

If we have failed to identify a barrier, please contact us so that we can investigate further.
