Black History Month: Listen to a special edition of our Birmingham Children's Trust podcast

Published: 2nd Oct 2024

The Birmingham Children's Trust podcast returns with a special episode for Black History Month alongside network partners. Check it out below...

The Birmingham Children's Trust podcast is back with a bang: Episode 28 is out now!

Hosted by Jadieal Millwood, a Senior Youth Worker at Birmingham City Council, this is the first of three special episodes for Black History Month

Our guests are Antonio Henry, founder of MADE CIC, Omar Junior, founder and director of The Study of Men and Michael Gordon, director of Gordon Brooks Property & Crossroads Housing and Support.

Alongside Jadieal, the trio sit down to discuss why Birmingham's children and young people need more black men to volunteer their time to work with and support them.

As Michael puts it: "We live in a society that doesn't portray positive images of black men often enough, or it is overshadowed by typical stereotypes. It's about them seeing that we are not the stereotype, we do have examples of successful black men within our society and they too can aspire to be that."

It's an eye-opening and honest conversation that explores the challenges facing our young black men, with each of the guests offering valuable insights and perspectives on the causes of and solutions to why we don't have enough black male volunteers.
