Privacy Notice for Children & Young People
What is a Privacy Notice?
A Privacy Notice tells you how we use information about you, or your ‘personal data,’ so you know where we get it from, what we do with it and why, and that we will keep it safe. There is a lot of personal data that we might use, but some examples are:
- Name
- Address
- School information
- Health information
- Information about your family
- Support information
Who are we?
We are Birmingham Children’s Trust. Our job is to support children, young people and families in Birmingham to make sure that they are as safe, healthy and happy as possible.
Why do you need my personal data?
We need your personal data so that we can make sure that we are offering you or your family the right support, to keep you safe, and to plan for the future.
Can you use my personal data for anything?
No. Just because we have personal data about you, it doesn’t mean we can do what we like with it. We have to always make sure that we are using it to keep you or your family safe, healthy or happy.
There are laws that we have to stick to which tell us why we are allowed to use information about you and how. Some of these laws include UK GDPR, and The Children Act.
Where do you get my personal data from?
Sometimes we will get the information straight from you! Sometimes we might get information about you from your school, family, or other people that have worked with you.
Can anyone else see my personal data?
Sometimes to make sure we can support you or your family, we might have to share information about you. There are rules about this that we have to follow, and we have to make sure your information is kept safe on our computer systems and when we share it with anyone else.
Do I have a say about my personal data?
Yes! You do have rights when it comes to your personal data. Sometimes we might have to use your personal data and keep it, even if you don’t want us to, because the law says we have to; but other times, you can ask us to stop using your data or delete it. You can also ask us what information we have about you, and ask that we make sure it is corrected if we have got anything wrong.
If you want to do any of these things, you can ask us on this part of our website . (It might be helpful to have an adult to help you).
Who makes sure you follow the rules?
Someone called the Information Commissioner’s Office makes sure that we follow the rules and will let us know if we get things wrong. You can find out more about them at www.ico.org.uk
What if I still have questions?
If you have any more questions about how we use your personal data, you can ask our Data Protection Officer at DPO@birminghamchildrenstrust.co.uk
