Birmingham Youth Justice Service - a guide for professionals

Who are we?

Formerly called the Youth Offending Service, Birmingham Youth Justice Service changed its name in December 2024 to reduce the stigma for children who have come into contact with the criminal justice system.

  • The Birmingham Youth Justice Service is part of the local authority.
  • In Birmingham, we are part of children’s services, called Birmingham Children’s Trust.
  • We are separate from the Courts and the Police.

We work with:

  • Health services.
  • Education and Schools.
  • The Police.
  • Probation.
  • Charities and the local community.

We have four main area teams in Birmingham across the city:

  • North-West.
  • North-East.
  • South-West.
  • South-East.

Each team have people working to support children, young people, and their families/carers.
