Birmingham Youth Justice Service - a guide for professionals
Who do we work with?
We work with children aged between 10 and 17-years-old who have:
- Got into trouble with the police or are arrested.
- Been charged with a crime.
- Charged with a serious crime and go to court.
- Found guilty of a crime and given a sentence by the court.
How we support them will depend on the seriousness of what’s happened and what the outcome at court was.
If they are under 18-years-old, they are seen as a child within the criminal justice system. That means they are treated differently from adults.
We will support children to understand what’s happened, what’s going on in their life that they might need help with, and how we can work together.
We will always listen to them first and foremost.
