Fostering and Family Based Care (FFBC) guide for professionals

Volume 2 – Care Planning, Placement and Review – Statutory Guidance to the Children Act 1989 states:
“Children in care (looked after children) deserve the best experiences in life, from excellent parenting which promotes good health and educational attainment, to a wide range of opportunities to develop their talents and skills in order to have an enjoyable childhood and successful adult life. Stable placements, good health and support during transition are all essential elements, but children will only achieve their potential through the ambition and high expectation of all those involved in their lives.” Volume 2 – Care Planning, Placement and Review – Statutory Guidance to the Children Act 1989
The Trust, as corporate parent, is committed to giving every child, where appropriate, the opportunity to experience family-based care. This is their right, enshrined within the United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child.
We don’t plan to move children unless this is the right choice for them. There are some children for whom a residential setting will be right to meet their needs. In supporting the move of children into family-based care where appropriate, the Trust hopes that this will in turn play a part in ensuring that placements within residential settings remain available for children who need it when they enter or move within care.
